REFLECTING THE PAST

With its facade, National Monument Kamp Amersfoort reminds the visitors of the memories of the site entangled with their present time reflections.

Located in Leusden in the Netherlands, the National Monument Kamp Amersfoot is designed by Inbo BV as a place of remembrance. The design aims to establish a close relationship with the forest around it by providing a reflective facade. On the ground floor space is almost left unoccupied in the interior to provide deeper views all the way to the other side of the building, providing an encompassing vista to the campsite that was active during the Second World War.

The museum function is located in the basement. In order to bring a contrasting experience compared to the transparent ground floor, it offers a darker and more intimate setting in which visitors can experience the reminiscences of the war.
