HEXAGONAL MEMORIES

The reflective glass surface of the pet crematorium creates fluxing perceptions of the wild nature around the building, recalling the memories of once-loved late animals.

Petr Hajek Architekti designed the pet crematorium Hunting Grounds in a former military site, about an hour's ride from Prague. The burial facilities are located behind a reflective glass facade in the wild landscape. Due to its history as a military area, nature seems to be untouched by human influence. Bushes and trees are intertwined in each other, and the new building design aims to keep this wild atmosphere.

The reflective glass surface in the landscape makes nature’s presence more prominent. This six meters tall and 11 meters long surface consists of small hexagonal pieces. Each piece having a slightly different tilt and angle, the reflection seems to flicker with a distorted perception like a liquid wall.
