PATTERNED LIGHT

Normal Studio’s glass study in CIRVA has led to the production of lighting fixtures with textured glass blobs.

During their 18-month study project with CIRVA (International Research Center for Glass and the Arts), Normal Studio created glass lighting fixtures. Learning the craftsmanship behind the traditional glassmaking processes, Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï of Normal Studio explored the potentials of molding for the creation of a textured glass surface.

They experimented with textile and meshed metal molds and the colors of the glass. The glassblowers in CIRVA supported the manufacturing process by giving advice to designers and at the same time realizing their designs. The end products are textured glass blobs in various forms and colors, assembled with LED lamps diffusing patterned light.
