MONOLITHIC TRANSPARENCY

Designed by Yiannis Ghikas, Soda coffee tables generate a play of light and shadow in their monolithic volumes.

Weighing 20 kilos, Soda is the result of classical glass blowing techniques and contemporary design. Air is puffed through the glass to create a three-petalled stem supporting a round, flat table surface. The glass is hammered by hand while still hot to create a prism-like effect when light passes through its surfaces.

In collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Miniform, designer Yiannis Ghikas’s coffee tables are entirely from blown Murano glass, and available in two sizes and two colors: bold amber and elegant petrol green. The perception of the tables varies with the viewer’s perspective and light conditions. If you look at the table from a certain edge, you see darker parts due to the way the layers of glass overlap one another.
